1.3 million young people have slept rough in the past year, study shows

Government estimates of the number of homeless young people in Britain are just a third of the real figure, a new report is set to reveal.

According to The Independent, a study by Cambridge University estimates 83,000 under-25s have had to rely on councils and charities for shelter in the past year.

But officials at the Department for Communities and Local Government have previously put that number at 26,852.

The research, set to be released tomorrow, reportedly found that one in seven young people has slept rough – around 1.3 million people in the past year.
