Dogs On The Dole – Disability cuts propaganda poverty porn extravaganza. [The UN TV guide returns]

Some eagle eyed readers may have noticed I was swearing over on the Facebook page last night.

(Posts since deleted.)

I feel like I need to explain myself more. You see, whenever they cut a welfare budget or make changes they put absolute bull crap on the TV and people fall for it hook line and sinker. What was particularly frustrating about Dogs On The Dole was that it was using a thin premise to demonize those on disability benefits, for having pets and money to feed those pets.

There have been reports in newspapers recently about disabled benefit claimants being attacked and disability hate crimes going up overall. Now people will watch Dogs On The Dole and view those of us who claim benefits and like to have an animal companion, go for a walk in the fresh air with it or just have them around for company- as not fit enough to look after the animal. The show made no secret of it’s agenda, with an interviewer saying to a disabled benefit claimant, ‘ Some people say you shouldn’t be spending your benefits on your dog.’

Then of course there was the everyone’s fiddling the system on the side narrative. A man who we are told has been unemployed for four years wants to breed his dog despite the vets saying it isn’t suitable for breeding just because he wants the cash. He then pays a man £10 to come and get some sperm from the dog ( yes they show it) and they inspect it under a microscope.

Towards the end of the documentary we are rushed through a number of disability benefit claimants, all of whom have their pets. The documentary comes across like a teacher in the classroom, ‘ You don’t deserve to have animals if you are on benefits and I’m right.’ We then see a woman who has been shown to feed her dog chocolate, trying to weigh it because she thinks it is fat.

One of the locals at my local pub who is disabled was recently attacked by a gang of men for being disabled alone. If you now want people to be attacked for going outside for some fresh air with their pets, mission accomplished Channel 4. The one thing some people might have to keep them sane, now in the eyes of the gullible is frowned upon for no other reason than very loosely linking a rise in strays to portray the disabled as undeserving of benefits. Even the ‘documentary’ its self said not everyone who can’t afford a pet is unemployed. I suppose they added that line to make themselves feel a little better, I however still woke up very angry and dismayed this morning.

It leaves quite a bitter taste when the media play into Government lead narratives rather than reporting the reality, there is no mention of the benefit death statistics being delayed, no mention of the 12,000 plus dying within two weeks of being found fit to work, no mention of the free forced labour or sanction targets. The Independent Living Fund was closed recently hitting the most disabled people in the land.  There are so many other topics they could be doing these type of shows on and for the greater good, but instead they choose to add to peoples misery and brainwash the deluded even more. The Telegraph today called this show warm and caring, the reality is it’s cold and harrowing. If another disabled person gets attacked as a result of this program it will be one to many.

Also it should be noted that general attacks on people without disabilities for being ‘scroungers’ have also increased.

Aside from making out all the disabled benefit claimants to be thick as a brush, the propaganda was also working in other ways. I won’t rant and rave but instead show you a selection of good and bad tweets as the program was broadcast. I will also ask you to please read this article from 2010. Then decide who is really  to blame for the amount of strays.
