The first ever Transgender Pride Festival is set to take place in London later this year in response to protests at the LGBT Pride marches from Lesbians and other groups.
From The Metro-
‘Organisers say the festival – which is known as London Trans Pride 2019 – is specifically aimed at trans, non-binary, intersex and gender nonconforming people ‘as well as all gender identities’. The Facebook post adds: ‘It is for people that think they might be trans+, but maybe aren’t sure. ‘It is for anyone who needs to escape the transphobic hegemony of cis-patriarchy.’ The organisers say they were inspired to create the event after the ‘hijacking’ of Pride London in 2018 by anti-trans campaigners.
During last year’s event, a group of campaigners carried banners and flyers stating ‘transactivism erases lesbians’ and described the trans movement as ‘anti-lesbianism’. ‘Last year’s transphobic protests and the all too familiar centring of cis-white gay-male narratives at Pride in London certainly informed our decision,’ London Trans Pride 2019 told PinkNews. ‘We realised collectively that it’s time for us to own our stories, to celebrate them and to take up the space we deserve outside and in broad daylight.’ The Facebook post also states that the media are controlling the way trans people are seen and allowed to be seen and their voices are being ‘distorted through a cis het media lens’. It adds: ‘We want to create a space that centres trans people and allows us to take ownership over our narrative.’ Details about the location and more information about London Trans Pride 2019 will be released in due course.”
It’s kind of odd that Transgender groups would claim to be victimized when people worldwide and in London are literally being arrested for misgendering –
‘misgender/mɪsˈdʒɛndə/verbgerund or present participle: misgendering
- refer to (someone, especially a transgender person) using a word, especially a pronoun or form of address, that does not correctly reflect the gender with which they identify.”
In reality most cases are simple accidents or harmless platitudes, while NHS staff are quitting over feeling forced to send kids questioning their sexuality for sex changes.
If they want to create divisions within their own movement to try and get more support over others, you have to question why they were even a part of the movement to begin with.
It will be interesting to see how many other countries start Transgender Pride marches too.
