‘A Tory former MP given the boot by voters after being convicted of expenses fraud has been chosen by the party to contest a by-election in his former seat.
Chris Davies was selected at the weekend to be the Conservative candidate in the Breckon and Radnorshire by-election, days after 10,005 people signed a recall petition chucking him out of the Commons.
The 51-year-old was convicted in May of faking expenses claims after he admitted to submitting two false expenses invoices for landscape photographs to decorate his new office in 2015.
He became the second MP to lose a recall petition following the by-election in Peterborough earlier this month in which the Tories limped home in fourth place.
‘I would like to thank members of my local association for supporting me, and putting their faith in me once again’ he wrote.
‘I look forward to campaigning over the next few weeks and winning back this seat, so that I can continue to work hard for the people of Brecon and Radnorshire.
‘A lot has been achieved over the past four years, but there is so much more to do, and I am the right person to do it.’ ‘
