UN human rights chief compares UK tabloids to ‘Nazi’ propaganda

UK tabloids like the Murdoch-owned Sun that compared immigrants to ‘cockroaches’ recall the dark days of the Nazi media attacking those they sought to eliminate, according to the UN’s human rights chief.

He singled out an article by former gameshow contestant turned-commentator Katie Hopkins, published by the Sun newspaper last Thursday, in which she wrote: “Make no mistake, these migrants are like cockroaches. They might look a bit ‘Bob Geldof’s Ethiopia circa 1984’, but they are built to survive a nuclear bomb. They are survivors.

The comment piece was published just hours before a boat containing hundreds of displaced people capsized in the Mediterranean, killing 800.

This type of language is clearly inflammatory and unacceptable, especially in a national newspaper. The Sun’s editors took an editorial decision to publish this article, and – if it is found in breach of the law – should be held responsible along with the author,” Zeid said.

Zeid said the Hopkins piece was by no means a one off, but rather the result of “decades of sustained and unrestrained anti-foreigner abuse, misinformation and distortion.

This vicious verbal assault on migrants and asylum seekers in the UK tabloid press has continued unchallenged under the law for far too long,” he said.

Like the Sun, Britain’s Daily Express was also a prime culprit, he said.

To give just one glimpse of the scale of the problem, back in 2003 the Daily Express ran 22 negative front pages stories about asylum seekers and refugees in a single 31-day period,” he said.

Asylum seekers and migrants have, day after day, for years on end, been linked to rape, murder, diseases such as HIV and TB, theft, and almost every conceivable crime and misdemeanor imaginable in front-page articles and two-page spreads, in cartoons, editorials, even on the sports pages of almost all the UK’s national tabloid newspapers.

Zeid said from a legal perspective free speech and hate speech were clearly delineated.

I am an unswerving advocate of freedom of expression, which is guaranteed under Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), but it is not absolute.

Article 20 of the same covenant says: ‘Any advocacy of national, racial or religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence shall be prohibited by law.

The man behind Jeremy Kyle’s ‘ Get a job’ snipe.

A couple of weeks ago I had a surreal experience. Two episodes of Jeremy Kyle were frequented by people I have actually met and know on a personal basis. This added a new level to the show I have never felt before. I could go into a million and one things, but I would like to share one moment in particular which featured a man called Ernie. The rest of the episode aside, one moment really summed up how Jeremy tries to twist things despite knowing nothing about the people he interviews. He yells into Ernie’s face ‘ Why don’t you get a job?’ to which Ernie replies meekly, ‘ I have worked in the past.’

This is only half the story. When I first met Ernie in Manchester centre with friends he had been sanctioned by the Jobcentre and so had the people around him. As mentioned he had worked in the past and on the day in question he and a few other people I know were helping me hand out CVs in Manchester centre. Ernie was looking in shop windows for job vacancies with ‘Gaz’ from the previous episode. He was really trying to help me and a fully nice gentleman. Does this sound like someone who should be shouted at to ‘ get a job’ and made to feel bad on TV?

Do you honestly think a man who has worked in the past would prefer to remain sanctioned with no money if he could get a job?

In a way it kind of sums up the whole mentality of the system, people yell and accuse before they walk in the shoes of the people affected by the welfare reforms. Ernie was also doing his best to look for work himself but as the sanctions were hitting people around him as well, that takes over your mind and distracts you. If you were to watch Jeremy Kyle though he is nothing more than a lazy person without a job. Jeremy also retorted to calling him ‘ the slowest milkman in the west’, referring to an old song with the lyrics ‘Ernie the fastest milk man in the west.’ The only ‘slow’ person here is the one yelling ‘get a job’ like a little child, hiding behind security and belittling people without even thinking about anything outside of their own ego.  There are reports that the Jeremy Kyle production team go around local estates looking for guests and offering them money to be on the show. This would make sense considering Ernie an the other people I know live close to the studio.

Jeremy Kyle isn’t alone in nasty sterotyping of course, Judge Rinder also belittles people for not having a job and scoffed at someone as they said they had problems at the Jobcentre, but what do you expect with it being the same production company?

I want to stop watching these shows I really do, but there’s an old saying, know your enemy. The mentality of what is shown rubs off on the public and with all the other shows towing the same lines it’s no wonder hate crimes on benefit claimants and disabled people have gone up.

Editor notes-

  • I was debating in my mind if to post about this for a few weeks but, I feel it has to be said.
  • I’ve tried to keep this as less opinionated and fact based as possible without resorting to calling Jezza a twat.
  • Other people might know Ernie more personally I’m just saying what happened when I met him.
  • Boycott Jeremy Kyle.

Couple Force DWP To Remove “Inaccurate” Video Of Them

The DWP has been forced to remove the promotional video on Universal Credit, just a day after they had to remove a leaflet featuring made-up quotes.

The video, online since February, featured a young couple from Warrington who described their experience of the newly introduced Universal Credit system.

Speaking to LBC, the couple – who want to remain anonymous – say the video “wasn’t a fair reflection” of their experience. When they described how money they claimed took more than a month to reach them, the couple say staff at the video shoot in the family’s home told them not to talk about it.
The couple also claim that a DWP advisor actually told the mother of one that she didn’t need to get back into work and could continue to claim benefits, despite the video being about getting back into work.

The Department for Work and Pensions removed the video this afternoon following contact with the couple and LBC. In a statement a DWP spokesperson said: “We always seek permission from people for their videos to be used. Taking part is entirely voluntary. If someone later changes their mind, they can ask for the video to be taken down.”

Dogs On The Dole – Disability cuts propaganda poverty porn extravaganza. [The UN TV guide returns]

Some eagle eyed readers may have noticed I was swearing over on the Facebook page last night.

(Posts since deleted.)

I feel like I need to explain myself more. You see, whenever they cut a welfare budget or make changes they put absolute bull crap on the TV and people fall for it hook line and sinker. What was particularly frustrating about Dogs On The Dole was that it was using a thin premise to demonize those on disability benefits, for having pets and money to feed those pets.

There have been reports in newspapers recently about disabled benefit claimants being attacked and disability hate crimes going up overall. Now people will watch Dogs On The Dole and view those of us who claim benefits and like to have an animal companion, go for a walk in the fresh air with it or just have them around for company- as not fit enough to look after the animal. The show made no secret of it’s agenda, with an interviewer saying to a disabled benefit claimant, ‘ Some people say you shouldn’t be spending your benefits on your dog.’

Then of course there was the everyone’s fiddling the system on the side narrative. A man who we are told has been unemployed for four years wants to breed his dog despite the vets saying it isn’t suitable for breeding just because he wants the cash. He then pays a man £10 to come and get some sperm from the dog ( yes they show it) and they inspect it under a microscope.

Towards the end of the documentary we are rushed through a number of disability benefit claimants, all of whom have their pets. The documentary comes across like a teacher in the classroom, ‘ You don’t deserve to have animals if you are on benefits and I’m right.’ We then see a woman who has been shown to feed her dog chocolate, trying to weigh it because she thinks it is fat.

One of the locals at my local pub who is disabled was recently attacked by a gang of men for being disabled alone. If you now want people to be attacked for going outside for some fresh air with their pets, mission accomplished Channel 4. The one thing some people might have to keep them sane, now in the eyes of the gullible is frowned upon for no other reason than very loosely linking a rise in strays to portray the disabled as undeserving of benefits. Even the ‘documentary’ its self said not everyone who can’t afford a pet is unemployed. I suppose they added that line to make themselves feel a little better, I however still woke up very angry and dismayed this morning.

It leaves quite a bitter taste when the media play into Government lead narratives rather than reporting the reality, there is no mention of the benefit death statistics being delayed, no mention of the 12,000 plus dying within two weeks of being found fit to work, no mention of the free forced labour or sanction targets. The Independent Living Fund was closed recently hitting the most disabled people in the land.  There are so many other topics they could be doing these type of shows on and for the greater good, but instead they choose to add to peoples misery and brainwash the deluded even more. The Telegraph today called this show warm and caring, the reality is it’s cold and harrowing. If another disabled person gets attacked as a result of this program it will be one to many.

Also it should be noted that general attacks on people without disabilities for being ‘scroungers’ have also increased.

Aside from making out all the disabled benefit claimants to be thick as a brush, the propaganda was also working in other ways. I won’t rant and rave but instead show you a selection of good and bad tweets as the program was broadcast. I will also ask you to please read this article from 2010. Then decide who is really  to blame for the amount of strays.
